Oh wait, an earthquake did hit, but I’m still alive! Yay! Anyways, it was an interesting experience riding a 5.6 earthquake on my bed. I heard a thud, felt a rumble, and didn’t realize it was an earthquake until the rumbling got stronger. I just laid there in my bed, thinking, “Oh cool, an earthquake.” The obvious procedure would be to either have ran for cover or run outside the house. I did neither. Kinda makes me wonder what would happen next time a stronger force would hit. I’m really thankful for it though for two and two half reasons.
It finally motivated me to wipe the dust off my desk fan. The fan fell off during the trembles, and all of its years of dust collecting exploded onto my carpet. After vacuuming, I finally cleaned it out. I was surprised at how much stronger it it got afterwards haha. Why am I using a fan in the late October? After using it so chronically during the warmer seasons, I find it’s hard to sleep without the white noise it provides. I’ll endure the cold if it means sleep haha.
Reason number two would be it gave me a topic to chat with old friends again. I went down my AIM buddy list and asked almost everyone if they were ok and etc. It was good to keep in touch, and I hope I can continue to stay in touch as the days go by. Whenever I think of things/people being forgotten/drifting away, it makes me sad. Generally, the concept of losing things forever irks me. Even in video games I’m reluctant to use potions and consumable items for healing when I can use the freely recovering spells and etc. I even heal my characters before they reach half life, just in case. Anyways, getting back on track, I’m glad I was able to chat with a number of people I hadn’t even said hello to in years. Hooray for friends at SC and EV!!!
I mentioned two half reasons because they don’t really count as real reasons at all, and yet they need to be mentioned. First off, this is going to be so interesting to hear everyone talking about the quake at school tomorrow haha. Secondly, believe it or not, I actually learned something from it! After the quake, I immediately grabbed my phone to call some friends and check on their status. My phone wasn’t connecting though. I didn’t hear any ringing, and the phone didn’t say “Connected to __________”. At first, thought it was my phone just acting up, so I turned it off and back on to see if that solved anything. It didn’t. I tried calling about 3 more times; even calling my own house number with it to see if anything would work. “Could the signal tower have been knocked down?” I thought. Of course, after a quick inspection of the (lack of) damage done to my room and house, I realized this was impossible. I then remembered at school during the earthquake drill that we weren’t supposed to use our cell phones, even to call home since it would tie up lines. I like learning new and interesting things, so long as they are closely relevant to my life, so this was a bonus for me.
On a sadder note, my Halloween costume didn’t turn out the way I had planned. I was going as a tv, and I built the box and cut out the screen and everything. It was going to be awesome because I had planned to get a bunch of different pieces of paper with different things drawn on them to represent various channels, and I was going to have a hand puppet of the Ring girl to scare people. The box ended up too small to fit various pictures, I didn’t have paint to really finish up the tv look, there’s no pictures or screen, and I didn’t make the hand puppet. Oh well
what can you do? Also, there’s like, only one person going trick or treating with me. Everyone else “doesn’t have spirit”, “has school work”, or “doesn’t care about Halloween”. It’s not cool. I might get pictures up of my ghetto tv/box, but I’m not promising anything.
